MINNETONKA, Minn., Aug. 18, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Excel High School, a regionally and nationally accredited online high school, based in Minnesota, is partnering with Pilot Institute, one of America’s premier flight schools to offer private pilot and drone pilot training to its students. The two-credit, 4-semester course is designed to give students the necessary knowledge to pass the FAA Private Pilot Airplane (PAR) Knowledge Test. With the nation suffering from a severe shortage of pilots, this course aims to help students get a jump start towards becoming a pilot.

“We’re very excited to offer our new pilot and drone pilot training course. As a pilot myself, I realize the desperate need the nation has for properly trained pilots”, says Rod Clarkson, CEO of Excel High School. “Instead of memorization, our pilot training course aims to bring flight to life for our students by teaching the ‘WHY’ behind flight concepts.”

Like the rest of their curriculum, Excel High School’s private pilot training course is self-paced and available to students worldwide. Each lecture video is 3 to 5 minutes long, and students can watch them as many times as they’d like to ensure mastery of the material.

In this course, students will learn:

  • How aircraft systems and instruments operate
  • How airplanes fly and the effect of various aerodynamic forces
  • How to compute weight and balance problems to properly load an aircraft
  • How to interpret the Federal Aviation Regulation
  • How to identify and predict dangerous weather phenomena
  • How to read aviation weather reports such as METAR, TAF, and PIREPs
  • How to successfully plan a cross-country flight

As the first online school in the country to offer private pilot training, Excel High School is committed to providing a thorough and comprehensive learning experience. The course includes links to free FAA publications along with over 800 practice questions and several practice exams. If possible, students should start flight training while taking this course.

Parents or students who want to learn more can visit the school website or contact an enrollment advisor at 800-620-3844.
